Launched in 2020 and crafted by perfumer Alberto Morillas, Acqua di Gio Profondo is a modern take on Giorgio Armani's iconic aquatic signature. It reimagines the original Acqua di Gio with a deeper marine intensity, bringing to life the depths of the ocean through its aquozone and sea notes. The composition opens with bright green mandarin and bergamot, followed by aromatic elements like rosemary and lavender, which give way to a woody, mineral base anchored by patchouli and amber.
Despite its deep-sea aspirations, Profondo has garnered mixed reviews from fragrance enthusiasts who find it competent yet unoriginal in the crowded 'blue aquatic' category. The drydown is often described as generic, lacking the innovative edge that made the original so memorable.
