The first thing Bleu de Chanel does is mislead you. Jacques Polge built a top that reads as a cold splash of grapefruit, mint, and pink pepper — sharp enough to cut through a room — but the base is incense, labdanum, and vetiver: dark, resinous, almost liturgical. Jasmine in the heart acts as the hinge, softening the shift from bright spice to warm amber so the transition feels earned rather than abrupt. Iso E Super threads through everything, giving it a diffuse projection that registers as presence rather than volume.
Launched in 2010 as an EDP, it sits among a crowded field of woody-aromatic men's scents, but the incense-and-labdanum base pushes it further into shadow than most of its peers. It works in a glass-walled boardroom and a dim bar alike, not because it's loud, but because its character shifts with the light around it.

Application Tips
The grapefruit and mint top burns through in roughly twenty minutes, so don't judge the fragrance in its first act — the incense and labdanum base needs a full hour to settle and do its real work. Two sprays on pulse points is enough; the moderate sillage keeps it personal rather than room-filling. Layer over a light citrus cologne if you want the opening to linger a little longer.
