Launched in 1999 by Calvin Klein and crafted by perfumers Carlos Benaïm and Pierre Wargnye, Contradiction is a composition that embodies the brand’s signature minimalism with a twist. The fragrance opens with a bright citrus-aromatic accord of lime, lemon, and mandarin orange, juxtaposed against warm spices like pepper, cardamom, and nutmeg. This initial contrast gives way to a heart of lavender and clary sage, which adds an herbal freshness before settling into a woody, musky base of vetiver, sandalwood, ebony wood, and musk.
