Launched in 2002 by perfumers Thierry Wasser and Christian Dussoulier, Dior Addict is an Oriental Floral fragrance that sparked real controversy almost immediately after its release. The name and the 'Admit It' ad campaign drew criticism from addiction-recovery advocacy groups who felt it glamorized substance abuse. Despite this backlash, the scent itself is a complex blend of sweet blackberry, mandarin leaf, and silk tree blossom in the top notes, leading to a heart of jasmine, orange blossom, night-blooming cereus, and rose. The base notes, anchored by vanilla, tonka bean, and mysore sandalwood, provide a warm, enveloping finish that is as much about comfort as it is about controversy.
