Eau de Vetyver by Givenchy was launched in 1959, marking one of the earliest fragrances under the brand's perfume line. The composition opens with a bright burst of bergamot, which quickly gives way to the earthy richness of vetiver and coriander. Fabrice Fabron (also credited as Francis Fabron) was a French perfumer trained at the Givaudan Perfumery School who began his career as a junior perfumer at Roure Bertrand Fils. In the 1940s he became known for sparkling aldehydic compositions, and created L'Interdit for Givenchy (1957), originally made as a personal fragrance for Audrey Hepburn, followed by Eau de Vétiver (1959), Hubert de Givenchy's own vetiver-forward signature scent. He also created fragrances for Nina Ricci, Balenciaga, and Robert Piguet.
