The Quick Read

Respected, if divisive — a woody, musky composition with a floral undertone. Voted best for spring and summer wear — and genuinely unisex.

The Story

Elevator Music by Byredo was launched in 2018 and is a collaboration between the Swedish brand and Off-White, fronted by Virgil Abloh. Perfumer Ben Gorham crafted this Floral Woody Musk fragrance for both women and men, blending notes of woodiness, musk, florals, powdery nuances, aromatics, green elements, amber, and violet. The composition opens with a fresh green and aromatic top, which transitions into a soft floral heart before settling into a warm, enveloping base of woody and powdery musks.

Application Tips

Apply Elevator Music with one or two sprays to avoid overwhelming its delicate balance. The green top notes are fleeting, so allow it time to transition into its heart and base for a more nuanced experience. This fragrance reads better close to the skin rather than filling a room.

Ben Gorham portrait

Ben Gorham, a Swede born to an Indian mother and Canadian father, grew up between Toronto, New York, and Stockholm, and pursued professional basketball before a visa setback ended that path. He turned to art school in Stockholm, where a meeting with French perfumer Pierre Wulff drew him toward fragrance, and he founded Byredo in 2006, launching its first collection — Green, Chembur, Pulp, Rose Noir, and Gypsy Water — that same year. He remains a shareholder and chief creative officer following Puig's acquisition of the brand.

The story behind the bottle.

The subtle hum of an elevator as you ascend to your floor — a moment suspended between places, where the air is filled with whispers of floral and woody notes.
