Launched in 1998 by Givenchy, Pi is a fragrance that challenged the conventions of its time. Created by Alberto Morillas, it combines a green-soapy accord with a resinous boozy-almond-vanilla base, an androgynous-leaning structure that was unusually bold for men's fragrances at the time. The opening notes of mandarin orange, tarragon, rosemary, and basil create a fresh, aromatic contrast to the warm vanilla and almond that follow, resulting in a composition that is both unexpected and deeply satisfying. Over the years, Pi has become one of Alberto Morillas's notable early works, though some longtime fans feel later reformulations have diminished its original impact.
