Launched in 2019 by Dior, Sauvage Parfum was created by François Demachy and is part of the broader Sauvage franchise that became one of the defining men's fragrances of its era. However, it has also been criticized for being generic or 'overexposed.' The composition opens with bergamot and mandarin orange, which provide a fresh, zesty start before giving way to elemi and olibanum. The heart is anchored by sandalwood, while tonka bean and vanilla add warmth and depth. Despite its commercial success, enthusiasts often describe its core DNA as being built heavily around ambroxan with a bergamot-pepper backbone, which some see as overly safe and predictable.
