The Perfect Smoking, launched by Zara in 2019 and crafted by perfumer Marine Ipert, is a woody-spicy fragrance that marries the warmth of smoky incense with the crispness of fresh spices. The composition opens with black pepper and star anise for an invigorating start, giving way to heart notes of jasmine and saffron that add a touch of floral richness. Sandalwood, cedar, and vetiver form the base, providing a grounding warmth and balsamic depth. Marine Ipert was raised in the south of France amid successive lavender, mimosa, jasmine, and rose seasons, meeting a Grasse perfumer at 13 that set her path. She joined ISIPCA in 2010, trained two years at IFF, then joined Symrise's perfumery school, becoming an in-house junior perfumer in 2015 and perfumer in 2019, before joining Takasago's Fine Fragrance studio in 2023.
