The Story

Launched in 1975 by Diptyque, Vinaigre de Toilette is a Woody Spicy fragrance that draws inspiration from a 19th-century formula. Perfumer Yves Coueslant crafts an intriguing blend of various herbs, spices, and woods, with notes of neroli and incense adding depth to the composition. The top notes burst with freshness, while the heart embraces warm spice and green accents before settling into a smoky, balsamic base that lingers softly.

Application Tips

Apply one or two sprays to your pulse points. The composition blooms after about an hour, so it’s best used during daytime for its moderate longevity and sillage. It pairs well with layered clothing, allowing its nuances to unfold close to the skin.

Yves Coueslant · Portrait

Yves Coueslant, a French stage designer, co-founded the house of Diptyque in 1961 with interior designer Christiane Gautrot and painter Desmond Knox-Leet, opening a shop at 34 Boulevard Saint-Germain in Paris that sold fabric and decorative designs before introducing scented candles in 1963 and the eau de toilette L'Eau in 1968. Memories of childhood summers in Do Son, Vietnam, where the sea breeze carried the scent of tuberose and elephants bore sandalwood to temple fires, inspired Diptyque fragrances including the Do Son and Tam Dao collections.
