Matthew Meleg
Matthew Meleg, a self-taught independent perfumer in Vancouver — one of only a few in Canada — grew up on a farm, dropped out of Emily Carr University after a year, and relocated to Japan for a decade. He trained himself using the Basenotes forum and by ordering and cataloguing essential oils, going on to create resinous, potent fragrances using controversial ingredients like real animal musks and high oakmoss levels exceeding IFRA compliance, describing each scent as a diary entry reflecting his experience with PTSD.
