Born in Nice in 1935, Raymond Chaillan grew up in Barrême surrounded by his grandfather's lavender fields and bee hives.
He began his career at Antoine Chiris in Grasse in 1962, moved to Paris in 1969 to work for Roure Bertrand Dupont, then Firmenich and Dragoco, before becoming Director of Perfumery Research at J&E Sozio in 1988 and Director at Argeville in 1993. He served as President of the Société Française des Parfumeurs from 1995 to 1997.
