Launched in 2016 by Clive Christian, a brand that traces its roots to the prestigious Crown Perfumery established in London in 1872, 1872 Mandarin is a Chypre Floral fragrance for both women and men. Created by perfumer Beverley Bayne, it opens with bright citrus notes of mandarin orange, bergamot, nectarine, lime, and lemon, evoking the freshness of a sunlit garden. The heart introduces a blend of floral and spicy accords — lavender, lily-of-the-valley, violet, freesia, orchid, rose, jasmine, ginger, basil, coriander — creating a dynamic tension between warmth and coolness. This is balanced by an earthy base of moss, vetiver, musk, amber, cedar, saffron, and patchouli that anchors the composition with woody depth.

Beverley Bayne is a Senior Perfumer at CPL Aromas in the UK, who entered the fragrance industry by accident after taking a laboratory job and beginning perfumer training a year later. She created Eau Sans Pareil for Penhaligon's and worked alongside fellow CPL Aromas perfumers Julie Pluchet and Dominique Preyssas on Franck Muller's fine fragrance collection.
