Delina

Delina was created by Hamid Merati-Kashani for Parfums de Marly and released in 2017, one year after Layton had established the house as a major commercial force in niche perfumery. Where Layton had defined the sweet-woody masculine, Delina staked out the equivalent position for the feminine market: a composition built around Turkish rose at a quality level rarely found outside the most serious niche houses, constructed to project at the kind of scale that made it immediately legible as a luxury object.

The composition opens with rhubarb, bergamot, and pepper — a fresh, slightly tart accord that provides contrast to what follows. The heart is dominated by rose, peony, lychee, and pink pepper in a combination that reads as both floral and fruity without sacrificing the rose's identity to the surrounding sweetness. The base of musk, vanilla, cashmere wood, and iris creates a soft, warm drydown that extends the floral heart's character long after the bright opening has faded. The rose throughout is handled with exceptional care — present at a concentration that justifies the price, developed in a way that rewards continued wear.

Delina confirmed Parfums de Marly's position as the house that had found the formula for bringing niche quality to an audience broader than the traditional niche market. Within two years of release it had become one of the most gifted and recommended fragrances in its price tier, worn by customers who were discovering serious fragrance for the first time and by experienced collectors who appreciated the quality of its rose material. It demonstrated that the gap between aspiration and accessibility, when bridged with genuine craft rather than marketing alone, could produce something that satisfied both constituencies simultaneously.
