Launched in 1991, Dune by Dior is a fragrance that pioneered the 'sea and sand' oriental-woody genre. Created by perfumers Jean-Louis Sieuzac, Nejla Barbir, and Dominique Ropion, it captures the essence of Dior's Normandy birthplace with its distinctive blend of aldehydes, mandarin orange, and a rich woody base. The fragrance won the FiFi Award in 1993 for its innovative composition that combined crisp citrus notes with warm amber and powdery woods.
Dune has developed a cult following over the years, particularly after its discontinuation and reformulation in 2004. Enthusiasts now seek out pre-2004 bottles marked 'Christian Dior' for their richer, more authentic formula.

Application Tips
One spritz of Dune will last through the day as it settles into a rich base. The pre-2004 formula is more intense, so adjust accordingly — two light sprays ensure longevity without overpowering.
Dominique Ropion
Founding perfumer · 344 fragrances · French

Dominique Ropion is a daring perfectionist, a true inventor. The risks he takes are invariably accompanied by a relentless pursuit of exact olfactory balance and flawless composition. His perfumes are like great architectural feats: in the same way that a bridge, whose seemingly miraculous suspension of weight is in fact a harnessing of counteracting forces, Dominique often balances excessive doses of powerful ingredients with meticulously-measured, subtler accords, until the composition holds up on its own. A good perfume, he likes to say, must always appear obvious.
