Givenchy III was launched in 1970, and it quickly became a defining scent of the era, blending aldehydic freshness with green earthiness and woody warmth. Created by Jean François Latty and Raymond Chaillan, this fragrance opens with galbanum and aldehydes, creating an immediate sense of crispness and sophistication. The heart notes of gardenia, jasmine, and lily-of-the-valley add a floral sweetness that is both lush and refined. At its base, vetiver, oakmoss, and sandalwood ground the composition in earthy richness without overpowering the lighter top notes.

Jean-François Latty, born in Grasse and trained at the Ecole Roure, joined IFF in 1970, where he composed Givenchy III with colleague Raymond Chaillan. After 17 years there he joined Takasago, creating L'Eau Dynamisante and YSL Jazz, then moved to the house Téo Cabanel in the early 2000s. In 2000 he also founded his own natural-ingredients firm, JFL Creations, based in Grasse. He died in December 2018 after nearly 50 years in perfumery.
