Dior launched J'adore in 1999, and within a few years it had joined No. 5 and Shalimar in the rarefied tier of fragrances that transcend their category to become cultural symbols. Calice Becker created the composition at a pivotal moment: the floral feminine was being declared dead, overtaken by aquatics, sheer musks, and the lingering influence of CK One's minimalism. The composition opens with a sparkling accord of bergamot, pear, and melon that establishes J'adore's radiant character immediately.
