L'Instant de Guerlain was launched in 2003 by perfumer Maurice Roucel, marking a significant departure for the house — it was the first pillar fragrance composed by someone outside the Guerlain family. The composition opens with mandarin orange and red apple, providing a fresh citrus contrast to the rich heart of magnolia, iris, ylang-ylang, and jasmine. This floral bouquet is then enveloped in a warm base of white honey, vanilla, amber, benzoin, and musk, creating an alluring blend of sweetness and depth.
Initially met with skepticism by some devoted Guerlainophiles, L'Instant de Guerlain has since garnered significant appreciation among fragrance enthusiasts. In 2017, Fragrantica readers voted it 'Most Underrated Fragrance,' signaling a notable shift in perception over time.
