Maai by Bogue, launched in 2014 and crafted by Antonio Gardoni, is an intriguing blend of modern and ancient techniques. The fragrance opens with aldehydes that create a crisp freshness, soon enveloped by the rich layers of tuberose, jasmine, and rose. The animalic presence of civet adds depth, while musk and resins ground the composition in a warm, powdery base. This contrast between clean aldehydic notes and complex floral-animalic nuances makes Maai a compelling exploration of contrasts.

Antonio Gardoni, an Italian perfumer originally trained as an architect, founded Jump Studios in London before turning to fragrance as a self-taught, avant-garde perfumer. He develops scents for his own brand Bogue as well as for Zoologist and Shekor, preferring to work at night with traditional infusion methods and high-concentration extrait de parfum strength, and offers a bespoke 'Bogue-Tailor' service.
