Launched in 1976 by Penhaligon's and crafted by perfumers Michael Pickthall and Beverley Bayne, Night Scented Stock is a warm and spicy oriental floral that invites you into its embrace with clove and cinnamon. The heart of ylang-ylang, lily, heliotrope, violet, jasmine, and tonka bean adds layers of sweetness and warmth before settling into a base of musk, sandalwood, vanille, vetiver, and patchouli that reads as comforting powdery woods and vanilla. Michael Pickthall was a senior perfumer at IFF before he and his brother Terence left to found Contemporary Perfumers Ltd (CPL) in 1971, which grew into the largest privately owned fragrance house in the UK. He created four fragrances for Penhaligon's: Lily of the Valley (1976), Bluebell (1978), Elisabethan Rose (1984), and Douro (2004).
