The Story

Launched in 1984, Parfum d'Hermès was created by perfumers Akiko Kamei and Raymond Chaillan as a Chypre Floral fragrance for women. The composition opens with aldehydes and galbanum, creating an immediate sense of freshness and greenness before settling into the heart notes of Bulgarian rose and ylang-ylang. This floral warmth is anchored by a base of myrrh, incense, sandalwood, and vanilla, offering a powdery and balsamic finish that feels both classic and modern.

Parfum d'Hermès captures the essence of Hermès's luxury heritage while pushing boundaries with its complex layers. It serves as a proof of the brand’s commitment to excellence in fragrance creation.

Application Tips

This parfum is designed to stay close to skin rather than project widely. Apply a few small dots behind your ears and on your wrists for best effect. The warmth from your body will activate the notes, allowing them to unfold gradually throughout the day.

Akiko Kamei portrait

Akiko Kamei, originally trained as a dietician in Kōchi, Japan, developed a passion for French culture and moved to France, securing an internship at Roure in Grasse in the early 1970s alongside future colleagues Pierre Bourdon, Édouard Fléchier, and Michel Almairac. After a decade in Grasse, Jean Amic invited her to join Roure's Paris creative team, where she went on to compose Parfum d'Hermès (1984, with Raymond Chaillan), Caron Troisième Homme, Diptyque Oyedo, and L'Artisan Parfumeur's Mûre et Musc.
