Launched in 1985 by Dior, Poison was created by perfumers Edouard Fléchier and Maurice Roger as a deliberately provocative statement. The fragrance opens with the sweetness of plum and wild berries, infused with coriander and anise, before unfolding into a heart of tuberose, jasmine, and rose over a warm base of vanilla, amber, sandalwood, and musk. Poison became a defining scent of the 1980s, known for its extreme potency and sillage, sparking controversy and national campaigns to rename it due to its overwhelming presence. Despite—or perhaps because of—its notoriety, Poison generated over $500,000 in sales within days of launch, making it one of Dior's most successful launches.

Application Tips
Poison has a strong sillage and longevity, so one or two sprays is sufficient. It's best suited for evenings out when you want to make a statement. The fragrance blooms fully within an hour, so apply early and let it develop on your skin.
Edouard Fléchier
Founding perfumer · 12 fragrances

Edouard Fléchier was one of the most creative perfumers of his generation, blessed with an innate talent for olfactory balance. His hypersensitive nose made him a prodigy at Roure, where he was a student, and has been a key component to his inventiveness ever since. Yet, even as a star, he remained humble and uncompromisingly self-disciplined, never once missing his morning ritual of smelling raw materials and refreshing his knowledge of the fundamentals.
