Polo Blue by Ralph Lauren was launched in 2003 and created by Carlos Benaïm and Christophe Laudamiel, marking an entry into the aquatic aromatic category that had already seen significant success with fragrances like Acqua di Giò and Bleu de Chanel. The composition opens with a refreshing cucumber and melon accord, followed by mandarin orange and basil, which give way to a heart of sage and geranium. The base notes feature suede, woody elements, and musk, creating a fresh yet slightly spicy and green profile.
Despite its popularity, Polo Blue has often been criticized by fragrance enthusiasts for being generic and inoffensive, described as an 'average hybrid' of its more iconic counterparts. Nevertheless, the success of this scent led to numerous Polo flankers, expanding the line significantly.
