Carina Chaz, born and raised in Los Angeles to immigrant parents who ran a small clean-beauty manufacturing business from the 1980s, was never allowed to wear traditional fragrance as a child and instead played with essential oils at Whole Foods with her mother. At 13 she created her first fragrance, Taunt, still a bestseller today, and in 2016, at 21, launched the clean genderless fragrance brand DedCool, known for popularizing scent layering.
