Launched in 1998 by Ralph Lauren and crafted by perfumer Harry Fremont, Romance is a Floral Fruity fragrance that quickly became iconic. The composition opens with the bright freshness of lemon and ginger, before giving way to a heart of rose, chamomile, and white violet, all anchored by an earthy base of oakmoss and exotic woods. This blend was positioned as a deliberate counterpoint to the bolder florals and orientals that dominated the 1990s, helping popularize a softer aquatic-floral aesthetic in the early 2000s.
Its gentle yet complex character earned Romance accolades, including the Fragrance Foundation's 'Fragrance of the Year – Women’s Prestige' award in 1999. Today, it remains one of the most reviewed and beloved fragrances in the catalog, a proof of its staying power.
