The Story

Launched in 2009, Terracotta Eau Sous Le Vent by Guerlain is a floral fragrance that combines the freshness of green notes and bergamot with the richness of carnation, jasmine, and iris. The composition is further enhanced by subtle animalic undertones, creating an intriguing contrast between the crispness of its top notes and the warmth of its base. Jacques Guerlain, known for his innovative use of materials, brings to life a scent that captures the essence of a terracotta roof under a gentle breeze.

Application Tips

This fragrance blooms slowly, so a light application is recommended to allow its layers to unfold naturally. The green notes are most prominent in the first hour, while the warm base notes emerge gradually, making it perfect for an afternoon or early evening.

Jacques Guerlain portrait
When I created Shalimar, I was thinking of the great love stories — of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal.

Jacques Guerlain is one of the greatest perfumers who ever lived — the man who gave the world Shalimar, Mitsouko, L'Heure Bleue, and Vol de Nuit. As the third-generation perfumer of the House of Guerlain, he elevated the family craft into high art. Working in the legendary Guerlain laboratory on the Champs-Élysées, he drew inspiration from love, literature, and travel to create fragrances of unprecedented emotional depth. Shalimar, inspired by the gardens of the Taj Mahal and his love affair with a woman whose identity remains mysterious, is perhaps the most celebrated perfume in history.
