Launched in 2020 by the Romanian niche brand Calaj Limited Editions, Transilvania is an Oriental Floral fragrance that marries sweet and musky notes with a touch of the animalic. Created by perfumer Miguel Matos, this composition opens with cherry and honey, which blend seamlessly into a heart of rose, jasmine, and tuberose. The base notes of civet, opoponax, agarwood (oud), and patchouli create an enigmatic warmth that is both comforting and slightly provocative. Transilvania captures the essence of Romanian elegance, combining classic florals with rich, enveloping musk and a hint of the wild.

Miguel Matos, from Almada, Portugal, worked as a journalist and art critic before becoming a self-taught perfumer. He joined the Fragrantica editorial team in 2013, has been commissioned by the Turkish brand Nishane, and has released four fragrances under his own label, Miguel Matos Perfumes, working from a small lab and showroom in Almada.
