The story behind the bottle.
Fennel is an unusual thing to find at the center of a floral - it brings a green, almost licorice snap that keeps the water lily and cyclamen from turning saccharine. Ambrette gives the opening a skin-warm graininess instead of true musk, and orris flattens everything into powder just as the anis note starts to fade. The result reads less like a bouquet and more like something worn on paper - dry, a little abstract, never quite settling into one shape. Lorenox and amber underneath keep it from floating away entirely, holding a soft weight at the base while the top stays light and slightly strange.
The anis-fennel opening is sharp and short-lived, so reapply after a couple of hours if you want that green snap to stay present. Because the drydown leans powdery-musk rather than loud, it works best applied close to the skin - wrists and collarbone - where it can be discovered rather than announced.
