The story
Perfumer Henri Sorsana took her on as a trainee, and she spent seven years under his guidance learning to compose. In 1977 she opened her first Paris boutique with three fragrances, including Eau d'Hadrien, which became her signature success, and in 1980 formed Annick Goutal Parfums, deliberately keeping distribution exclusive as the brand expanded internationally. She died in 1999 at fifty-three after developing breast cancer, leaving twenty-five fragrances behind; her daughter Camille Goutal has continued the house alongside perfumer Isabelle Doyen.
