Germaine's story

The story

She trained as a chemist and worked for Roure Bertrand Dupont before creating, in 1944, Bandit for Robert Piguet — one of the first leather chypres, built around an overdose of isobutyl quinoline. In 1947 she created Vent Vert for Balmain, credited as the first true "green" perfume, and in 1948 composed Fracas for Piguet, a landmark tuberose fragrance now considered one of the greatest florals ever made. She also created La Fuite des Heures and Jolie Madame for Balenciaga and Balmain, and Coeur Joie for Nina Ricci, cultivating friendships with figures including Jean Cocteau.
