Mathilde Laurent grew up among artists in Paris's Montparnasse before studying chemistry and physics and entering ISIPCA.
At a school event she approached Jean-Paul Guerlain directly and asked for an internship — a meeting that led to eleven years at Guerlain, where she created Herba Fresca. Since 2005 she has been the in-house perfumer for Cartier, composing Baiser Volé in 2006 and, in 2015, L'Heure Perdue — built entirely from lab-created molecules to prove synthetics could feel soft and maternal rather than harsh.
