The story behind the bottle.
The name promises oud — that heavy, resinous, almost animalic weight — but what actually lands on skin is something more precise and less confrontational. Cardamom and black tea open the composition with a specific, almost drinkable warmth, the kind of spiced-aromatic note that reads as a cup of chai rather than a spice rack. Then iris arrives, powdery and cool, cutting through that warmth before patchouli, vetiver, and sandalwood settle into an earthy, grounding base that takes its time.
Ajmal has spent sixty years building a Middle Eastern perfumery house around material depth, and this 2023 EDP reads like that inheritance filtered through a more restrained lens. The "interplay" in the name isn't about volume; it's about the way these layers overlap — tea dissolving into iris, iris dissolving into wood — each one fading just enough to let the next one speak. Moderate sillage keeps it intimate rather than declarative.
The cardamom-and-tea opening is the most characterful part and will shift within the first hour, so if that's what drew you, spray it and don't wait for the base to judge it. After that, patchouli and sandalwood take over with a slow, earthy warmth that carries well into the next day. Two sprays to the wrists is enough — moderate sillage means this is a close-range, skin-hugging presence rather than a room-filler.
