The story behind the bottle.
Launched in 1981 by Chanel and crafted by Jacques Polge, Antaeus is a Woody Chypre fragrance that has become a cult classic among enthusiasts. As Chanel's second men’s fragrance after Pour Monsieur (1955), it stands out as a benchmark 'powerhouse' leather chypre built on castoreum, patchouli, labdanum, and honey. The vintage batches from before the 2000s are particularly prized for their richer and more animalic qualities compared to the current formula, which has been adjusted under IFRA guidelines.
Antaeus projects best with a moderate application; one or two sprays on pulse points allow its rich base notes to develop slowly over time. The vintage batches are more potent, so adjust accordingly if you have an older bottle.
