The Story

Launched in 1937 by Jacques Guerlain, Coque d'Or is an emblematic Chypre fragrance that captures the essence of French elegance and sophistication. The composition opens with a vibrant blend of citruses and peach, followed by a heart of iris, rose, and carnation. This floral bouquet gives way to a warm and powdery base of oakmoss, leather, amber, sandalwood, and labdanum, creating an earthy and enveloping scent that feels both lasting and luxurious.

Application Tips

Apply Coque d'Or in light layers to allow its complex notes to unfold gradually. The vibrant citrus top notes are fleeting, so focus on the heart and base for lasting warmth and depth.

Jacques Guerlain portrait
When I created Shalimar, I was thinking of the great love stories — of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal.

Jacques Guerlain is one of the greatest perfumers who ever lived — the man who gave the world Shalimar, Mitsouko, L'Heure Bleue, and Vol de Nuit. As the third-generation perfumer of the House of Guerlain, he elevated the family craft into high art. Working in the legendary Guerlain laboratory on the Champs-Élysées, he drew inspiration from love, literature, and travel to create fragrances of unprecedented emotional depth. Shalimar, inspired by the gardens of the Taj Mahal and his love affair with a woman whose identity remains mysterious, is perhaps the most celebrated perfume in history.
