The story behind the bottle.

Scentsation editorial

Launched in 2007 by Dior, Midnight Poison was created by Jacques Cavallier Belletrud, Olivier Cresp, and François Demachy. This Woody Chypre fragrance stands out with its dark, patchouli-amber-rose character that diverged from the sweeter florals of its time. Discontinued around 2010, Midnight Poison has since become a cult favorite among enthusiasts, turning bottles into sought-after collector items commanding high resale prices. The composition opens with bright citrus notes like bergamot and mandarin orange before transitioning to a rich heart of rose and patchouli, anchored by warm amber and vanilla that add depth and complexity.

How to wear it

Midnight Poison's rich base notes take time to bloom, so allow it to settle on your skin for at least an hour before reapplying. The patchouli is particularly strong up close, making this fragrance best suited for evening wear when its depth can be fully appreciated.

François Demachy

Dior's guardian of dreams

François Demachy is the in-house perfumer-creator at Christian Dior, a title that places him among the most influential noses in the world. Born in Cannes and raised in Grasse — the historic capital of perfumery — he carries the craft in his blood.

“Early on, I memorised a whole host of notes without even realising it. I could recognise moss and flowers. My nose educated itself.”
