Launched in 2016 by Floris, a house with roots dating back to 1730, 1988 is a Woody Aromatic fragrance that marries the brand’s historical elegance with modern freshness. The composition opens with green notes and galbanum, creating an earthy, crisp freshness that segues into vibrant citrus accords of bergamot, lemon, and grapefruit. This bright top layer gives way to a complex heart of jasmine, rosemary, and thyme, which adds depth and warmth. The base notes of vetiver, sandalwood, musk, and amber provide a grounding earthiness that complements the fresh spiciness above.
One or two sprays are sufficient to capture the essence of this fragrance. The citrus top notes are vibrant but fleeting, so it’s best applied just before you need the full effect. The earthy base notes develop over time, making this scent a perfect companion for daytime and into the early evening.
