The story behind the bottle.
Launched in 2020, 139 Spice by Michael Malul London is a Woody Spicy fragrance created by perfumers Roger Howell and Frank Voelkl. This composition opens with a bright melon and bergamot duo that immediately freshens the air, leading into a heart of lavender and jasmine that adds an aromatic warmth without becoming heavy. The base notes of amber, sandalwood, and patchouli provide a grounding earthiness, creating a tension between freshness and depth.
Apply this fragrance a bit heavier than usual in the morning; the citrus and melon top notes are bright but fleeting. The woody base takes about an hour to bloom fully, so layering it over a light cologne can help bridge that transition. It pairs well with casual attire for a more relaxed yet sophisticated vibe.
