Un Jardin Sur Le Toit by Hermès was launched in 2011 and is a part of the 'Un Jardin' series, each fragrance capturing the essence of a specific real garden. This particular scent draws its inspiration from the rooftop garden at the Hermès flagship store on Rue Faubourg Saint-Honoré in Paris, where apple trees, pear trees, and magnolia thrive amidst aromatic herbs and flowers. Jean-Claude Ellena’s composition opens with fresh fruity notes of apple and pear before settling into a heart of rose and green grass, complemented by basil and magnolia. The base is warm and earthy, reminiscent of the garden’s compost, creating an evocative blend that captures the essence of this lush urban oasis.

Application Tips
This EDT is best applied in moderation — the fruity top notes are bright but fleeting. The floral heart takes about an hour to bloom fully, so allow it some time to settle before heading out. It pairs well with light layers and suits daytime better than evenings.
Jean-Claude Ellena
Founding perfumer · 104 fragrances · French

As a disciple and close friend of the legendary Edmond Roudnitska (creator of “Le Parfum de Thérèse”), Jean-Claude Ellena began his career with a minimalistic approach to perfumery. Since then, he has developed this approach into his own distinctive style, which is continually informed by his elegant and quiet way of being, and has been compared by his contemporaries to watercolor sketches and chamber music. Jean-Claude says that a perfume must be like “a soft caress; nothing must shock, nothing must shout”.Jean-Claude Ellena was born in Grasse into a family of perfumers. His training began at age 17, in the most prestigious laboratories – in Grasse, Paris, New York and Geneva – where he always saw himself as self-taught. Roudnitska’s minimalism never left him, however, and his compositions remain focused around a single ingredient, avoiding repetition.
