The story behind the bottle.
Zara Sandalwood doesn't smell like sandalwood — and that's the point. Launched in 2016 as part of the fashion house's fragrance line, the composition trades the creamy, lactonic warmth the name promises for something sharper: lime and bergamot cut through cardamom in a way that reads as a spice counter's bright edge rather than a wood's soft body. Vetiver anchors the base, pulling the whole thing green and slightly earthy, while musk and a powdery finish keep it from tipping heavy.
It performs best at arm's length. The moderate sillage means it announces itself as clean and current — the kind of scent that reads as intentional without demanding a second glance. Zara's fashion-first instinct shows through: this is a fragrance built to pair with a well-cut shirt and a short commute, not to outlast the evening.
The bergamot and lime top fades within twenty minutes, so don't judge it on the first spray — the cardamom-vetiver heart is where the real character lives. Two sprays to the wrists and one to the collarbone gives the musk base time to settle into skin. It reads better close-up than across a room; save it for a commute or a small meeting rather than a large, empty space.
