Jean Kerléo was a French perfumer born in 1932 in Brittany who began his career at twenty-two with Helena Rubinstein in New York, went on to win the Prix des Parfumeurs de France in 1965, and served as president of the Society of French Perfumers from 1976 to 1979.
He worked as the in-house perfumer for Jean Patou from 1967 to 1998, creating fragrances including 1000 and Sublime and overseeing the 1984 recreation of historic Patou scents such as Chaldée and Normandie. In 1999 he founded the Osmothèque in Versailles, a scent archive dedicated to preserving and reconstructing historic and lost perfumes, directing it until handing the role to Patricia de Nicolaï in 2008; he received the Prix François Coty in 2001 and died in 2025.
