Maurizio Cerizza grew up inside his family's business: EMA, an essential-oils company founded in Milan in 1946, and his father's Imperia branch distilling jasmine, rose, orris, and sandalwood.
As a child fascinated by distillation tools and the vault of precious absolutes, he trained under René Ricord, assistant to Jean Carles, founder of the original Roure perfumery school. Cerizza carries forward Carles's teaching method of memorizing and classifying fragrances by olfactory family.
