The story behind the bottle.
Launched in 1999 by Michel Almairac, Gucci Rush was an immediate standout for its bold and unapologetically synthetic character. The fragrance opens with a bright burst of peach and Californian gardenia, leading into a heart of African freesia petals and coriander that adds complexity and warmth. As it settles, the patchouli and vanilla create a rich, earthy base that lingers for hours. Gucci Rush won the Fragrance Foundation's 'Fragrance of the Year – Women's Prestige' award in 2000 and is widely regarded as a gold-standard scent of the late-1990s/early-2000s clubbing era, thanks to its instantly recognizable character that enthusiasts describe as unlike anything else on the market.
Given its synthetic top notes that fade quickly, apply this fragrance in layers. The patchouli and vanilla base notes take time to bloom, so reapply every few hours if you want a continuous presence. It's best suited for evening wear when the warmth of the earthy base notes can really shine.
