Who Wears It
The story behind the bottle.
Aoud Damascus does something unusual for a rose-oud composition: it throws a fresh, spicy front against a base that wants to be heavy and resinous. The Damascus rose here isn't soft or powdery — it's jammy, almost syrupy, wrapped in amber and the dark pull of oud. But that fresh-spicy accord cuts through the sweetness like a blade, keeping the whole thing from collapsing into cloying. The tension between the bright top and the dense base is what gives it structure.
Pierre Montale built this in 2006, a few years after bringing his work from Saudi Arabia — where he had been composing for royalty — back to a Parisian house he'd just founded. The result reads as an oriental statement translated for a Western shelf: bold, unapologetic, and loud enough to fill a room. The strong sillage and long-lasting EDP concentration make clear this isn't a fragrance designed for subtlety. It's a declaration of presence.
Three sprays maximum — the fresh-spicy opening projects hard for the first two hours, and the strong sillage means it will register across a room. After that, the rose and oud settle into a close, resinous warmth that carries well into the next day. One pulse-point spray handles an office; three is for a night where you want to be found before you arrive.
