The story behind the bottle.
Semi-Bespoke No. 14 (2005) is a chypre that has been pushed well past its own genre boundaries. Roja Dove built the classic architecture — bergamot and cypress up top, patchouli and vetiver holding the structural middle — then loaded the base with agarwood, saffron, and ambergris until the composition reads less like a garden chypre and more like a resinous, animalic statement. The jasmine and saffron create a warm, slightly medicinal spiciness that cuts through the woody density rather than sitting passively on top of it.
The 'Semi-Bespoke' name reflects Roja Dove's practice of composing these as individual commissions before releasing them as numbered editions — each one a finished, singular piece rather than a product line. No. 14 is the one where the oud and ambergris do the heavy lifting, and the fresh aromatic top is really just the invitation to the door.
The bergamot and cypress top is gone within twenty minutes — don't judge the fragrance by that first impression. The saffron and agarwood base needs a full hour on skin to open up, and once it does, it projects without shouting. One or two sprays at the pulse points is enough; this reads differently at three hours than at thirty minutes, and the shift is the point.
