The story
Raised on the Romanian seaside and in the forests of Lebanon, she developed an early appreciation for the natural world before a lab assistant role at Universal Oil Products (now Givaudan) led her, unexpectedly, into perfumery, where she trained under master perfumer Elie Roger. In 1988 she was named Master Perfumer at Firmenich, becoming the first woman to hold that title there, and went on to create fragrances for brands including Tommy Hilfiger, Estée Lauder, Marc Jacobs, and Ralph Lauren. Her career has been recognized with the American Society of Perfumers' Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003 and The Fragrance Foundation's Perfumer of the Year Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015.
