Jean-Claude Astier crafted Imperial Santal by M. Micallef as a composition that balances fresh citrus and aromatic woods with the warmth of musk and earthy notes like patchouli and vetiver. The scent opens with bright bergamot and grapefruit, which give way to a heart of sandalwood and balsam fir. This creates a juxtaposition between crisp freshness and rich, grounding warmth, making it a fragrance that evolves gracefully throughout the day.
Imperial Santal is best applied as two sprays on the pulse points. The citrus top notes are bright but fleeting, giving way to the richer heart and base notes after about 20 minutes. It reads well close to skin rather than across a room, making it ideal for daytime wear.
