The story behind the bottle.
Launched in 2017 by Maison Francis Kurkdjian, Baccarat Rouge 540 Extrait de Parfum was originally created as a collaboration with the renowned crystal house to celebrate its 250th anniversary. This Oriental Floral fragrance is defined by its warm and spicy notes, blending bitter almond with saffron and Egyptian jasmine for a luxurious bouquet that's both rich and refined. The composition settles into woody and musky accords, anchored by ambergris and ambroxan, creating an enveloping warmth that feels like a hug from the skin outwards.
Its distinctive formula has made Baccarat Rouge 540 one of the most imitated fragrances in modern perfumery. The largely synthetic mix of ambroxan, saffron, and a cotton candy-like sweetness is relatively easy to reverse-engineer, leading to a wave of imitators that have helped define the 'luxury skin scent' trend of recent years.
Apply lightly to pulse points — the musky and woody base notes build on skin over time. This fragrance is best experienced close to the skin rather than from across the room, so avoid layering it heavily. It's ideal for evening wear when you want something that feels intimate and luxurious.
