Cognac and nutmeg give the opening real warmth without tipping into sweetness — citron and galbanum cut through just enough to keep it from feeling heavy-handed. Clary sage and violet leaf bring a green, slightly bitter calm to the middle, a contrast to how warm the top notes read. Aurélien Guichard settles the whole thing into a dry, leathery tonka base that holds its warmth without turning syrupy — the kind of drydown built for a room that's already gotten a little quieter.
The cognac-nutmeg opening runs warm from the very first spray, so start with fewer sprays than usual and build up from there. The tonka-leather base has strong projection on its own and holds up well through a long evening.
