The story behind the bottle.
Launched in 2012 by Andrea Maack, Coal is a Woody Aromatic fragrance that captures the essence of raw, mineral-rich earth. Perfumer Richard Ibanez crafted this composition around the striking note of coal, which adds an unexpected depth and warmth to the scent. The top notes of pink pepper, juniper berries, and sichuan pepper create a fresh spicy aroma that transitions into a heart of papyrus and cedar, before settling into a base of sandalwood, leather, and patchouli. This contrast between the crisp top notes and the rich, woody base makes Coal a captivating unisex fragrance.
Coal has a strong base that takes time to develop, so it's best to apply two sprays and allow it to settle for at least half an hour. The fresh spicy top notes fade quickly, giving way to the rich woody and leather base, which makes this fragrance ideal for cooler evenings or indoor settings.
