The story behind the bottle.
Launched in 2016 by Clive Christian, a brand that traces its roots to the prestigious Crown Perfumery established in London in 1872, 1872 Mandarin is a Chypre Floral fragrance for both women and men. Created by perfumer Beverley Bayne, it opens with bright citrus notes of mandarin orange, bergamot, nectarine, lime, and lemon, evoking the freshness of a sunlit garden. The heart introduces a blend of floral and spicy accords — lavender, lily-of-the-valley, violet, freesia, orchid, rose, jasmine, ginger, basil, coriander — creating a dynamic tension between warmth and coolness. This is balanced by an earthy base of moss, vetiver, musk, amber, cedar, saffron, and patchouli that anchors the composition with woody depth.
1872 Mandarin's bright top notes dissipate quickly, so apply it with a heavier hand to ensure that the floral heart has time to develop. The earthy base takes about an hour to bloom fully, making this fragrance ideal for daytime wear when you want something fresh and evolving throughout the day.
